  • Director of Development

    General Information
    Job Title: Director of Development
    Location: Carrabassett Valley, Maine
    Employee Status: Full-time, 12-months
    Classification: Salary with benefits
     
    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Ability to think strategically and creatively, take initiative, and work independently as part of a team.
    • 3+ years of fundraising and major gift experience with proven experience to fulfill position duties and responsibilities.
    • Track record of accomplishment
    • Prior management experience is preferred.
    • Experience with MS Office systems, including Word, Excel, and relational databases.  
    • Experience with Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge or similar database.  
    • Highly skilled with Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge or similar database. 
    Job Summary
    Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) is a private ski and snowboard academy for grades 7 through postgraduate, located at the base of Sugarloaf Mountain in Carrabassett Valley, Maine. This is a full-time hybrid role for the Director of Development. The Director of Development is responsible for fulfilling the Academy’s mission through driving the vision and execution of overall advancement, fundraising, and strategic network building. A successful candidate will develop long-term relationships for CVA with alumni and other prospective donors and enjoy working in an environment that thrives on collaboration, community, and a love of the outdoors.     Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Fundraising Strategy
    • Develop, implement, and execute the advancement and fundraising strategy in support of CVA’s mission.
    • Oversee the administration of fundraising strategy and annual giving through phone, virtual, digital, social media, print, and face-to-face solicitations designed to meet financial and participation goals.
    • Direct activities for the current phase of the capital campaign.
    • Research and plan for future capital campaigns. 
    • Seek unique grant funding opportunities and direct application activities as necessary. 
    • Serve as the school’s primary major gift officer. 
    • Stay abreast of current and leading fundraising practices and marketing trends including professional development opportunities and peer outreach. 
    Donor Relations
    • Manage major donors and donor prospects through identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
    • Increase alumni/parent engagement and giving participation. 
    • Oversee coordination of fundraising activities and events.
    • Cultivate planned giving interests and opportunities. 
    Team Collaboration
    • Demonstrate a positive, supportive, and encouraging attitude with all stakeholders 
    • Oversee all aspects of the Development Department 
    • Advise and provide accurate information to the Head of School to support organizational decision-making processes.

The Weekend Program is a partnership between Carrabassett Valley Academy and Sugarloaf. Weekend Program employees work together to share the love of snow sports with our athletes and families.

    • Successfully complete SafeSport Training

    Job Summary
    CVA has an open part-time Freestyle Weekend Program coach position for the upcoming season. The ideal candidate's qualities include motivation, enthusiasm, a love of skiing, positive and supportive communication, and the ability to connect with our athletes. Competition background is a plus. Coaches receive a Sugarloaf season pass and other CVA employee benefits. This is a great opportunity for a coach who wishes to develop professionally and is looking for a coaching mentor.

    Essential responsibilities:
    • Coaching the Freestyle Weekend Program athletes, ages 8-18.
    • Coaching availability on weekends and during school vacations in December and February.
    • Execute athletic training on weekends and vacation weeks at Sugarloaf Mountain.
    • Travel to local races to coach athletes.
    • Effectively communicate with athletes, parents, and coaching staff.
    • Complete written athletic evaluations at the end of the season.

    • A love of working with young athletes and the ability to connect with them.
    • A desire to develop professionally to become the best coach you can be.
     
    Job Summary

The ideal candidate's qualities include motivation, enthusiasm, a love of skiing, positive and supportive communication, and the ability to connect with our athletes. At Home in the Carrabassett Valley

Carrabassett Valley is home to 4,237-foot Sugarloaf Mountain, one of Maine's tallest mountains and the largest ski area east of the Rocky Mountains. The resort offers 1,360 developed skiable acres and 176 skiing and snowboarding trails, glades, and terrain parks, including an Olympian-designed Cross course, and the only lift-serviced, above-treeline skiing and riding in the East.
