  • Business Manager

    General Information
    Job Title: Business Manager
    Location: Carrabassett Valley, Maine
    Employee Status: Full Time Year-round

    Minimum Qualifications
    • College degree and a minimum of 5 years experience in financial management or  accounting
    • Strong knowledge of the following areas: accounting, financial reporting, payroll, budgeting, banking processes, financial data analysis, and benefits administration
    • Experience in an independent school, college, not-for-profit organization, or in a small business environment preferred
    • Personal interest in the Western Maine lifestyle
    Job Summary
    This position is responsible for overseeing the Academy’s financial management, accounting procedures, and human resources, with the goal of operating the school in an effective and efficient manner. The Business Manager is an active school community participant and contributes to the team effort required for CVA to achieve its overall goals. This is a full-time, year-round position.

    Essential Responsibilities:
    • Provides leadership, oversight and management of the day-to-day operation of the business office team (bookkeeper & HR specialist) including payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, accounting, and school supply functions.
    • Collaborates with the Head of the School on financial aspects of strategic planning initiatives.
    • Manages, develops and directs the annual operating budget.
    • Plans and prepares forecasts of the financial condition of the school.
    • Liaisons with the endowment portfolio managers, providing information on invested funds and implementing decisions of the Board Finance & Investment Committee.
    • Maintains compliance with governmental regulations and changing regulatory environment by staying current on law and regulations that may affect compliance.
    • Oversees the risk management function and purchases property, casualty, liability and workers compensation insurance.
    • Manages human resources including employee relations, benefits and compensation, and safety for employees.
    • Oversees and directs implementation and administration of employee benefit programs.

  • Assistant Athletic Trainer

    General Information
    Job Title: Assistant Athletic Trainer
    Location: Carrabassett Valley, Maine
    Employee Status: Full Time, 9 months
    Classification: Salary with 12-month benefits
    Minimum Qualifications:
    • State of Maine Athletic Training license or eligibility to complete
    • First Aid and CPR certified
    • CSCS or comparable preferred
    • NATABOC certified
    Job Summary
    Carrabassett Valley Academy has an open position supporting the Athletic Trainer on the Health and Wellness team. This is a full-time position for 9 months (late August - early June) with 2 weeks on campus during the summer.

    Essential Responsibilities
    • Provides professional athletic training services including but not limited to, prevention, recognition, evaluation, assessment, education, immediate care, treatment, counseling, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of athletic injuries.
    • Athletic Training organization and administration duties include maintenance of the athletic training facility, inventory of equipment, preparing bids within a budget, detailed and accurate documentation, AED maintenance and communication with parents, patients, staff and physicians.
    •  Serves as a member of the high-performance team requiring good understanding of strength and conditioning, prevention of injuries and an ability to work collaboratively as a team.  Candidate will help set goals for the program and effectively prepare and coordinate dryland schedules based on the team’s goals requiring an ability to be flexible, organized, and multi-task.
    • Ability to make connections with young athletes and work collaboratively with the wellness team, parents and staff.  Must be enthusiastic about helping young athletes grow and be successful.
    Additional Duties:
    • Attends seminars, conferences, and other professional development opportunities.
    • Covers shifts as part of a weekday and weekend duty team as per contract defined.
    • Share on-call availability with the Head Athletic Trainer.
    • Potential to serve as the “return to snow” coach.
    • Performs other duties as requested.

The Weekend Program is a partnership between Carrabassett Valley Academy and Sugarloaf. Weekend Program employees work together to share the love of snow sports with our athletes and families.

    Job Summary
    CVA has an open part-time Freestyle Weekend Program coach position for the upcoming season. The ideal candidate's qualities include motivation, enthusiasm, a love of skiing, positive and supportive communication, and the ability to connect with our athletes. Competition background is a plus. Coaches receive a Sugarloaf season pass and other CVA employee benefits. This is a great opportunity for a coach who wishes to develop professionally and is looking for a coaching mentor.

    Essential responsibilities:
    • Coaching the Freestyle Weekend Program athletes, ages 8-18.
    • Coaching availability on weekends and during school vacations in December and February.
    • Execute athletic training on weekends and vacation weeks at Sugarloaf Mountain.
    • Travel to local races to coach athletes.
    • Effectively communicate with athletes, parents, and coaching staff.
    • Complete written athletic evaluations at the end of the season.

At Home in the Carrabassett Valley

Carrabassett Valley is home to 4,237-foot Sugarloaf Mountain, one of Maine's tallest mountains and the largest ski area east of the Rocky Mountains. The resort offers 1,360 developed skiable acres and 176 skiing and snowboarding trails, glades, and terrain parks, including an Olympian-designed Cross course, and the only lift-serviced, above-treeline skiing and riding in the East.
