Big Dogs Lead the Way in Annual Food Drive

For more than 40 years, Carrabassett Valley Academy students have partnered with the Sugarloaf Area Christian Ministry to support local families through an annual food drive rooted in service and community connection.
This year’s effort was a powerful example of CVA values in action. Students took the lead, organizing, reaching out, and showing up to raise $5,372.33 and collect 1,165 food items that will go directly to neighbors in need across the region. In total, 60 students and 17 drivers contributed their time and energy to make the day a success.

The drive is more than a single event; it’s a reflection of what it means to be part of the CVA community. Students demonstrate kindness through their willingness to help others, committing time and effort to make a difference. From knocking on doors to sorting donations, their actions showed how small efforts, multiplied across a community, can have a meaningful impact.

The Sugarloaf Area Christian Ministry, a longtime partner in this initiative, works year-round to assist local individuals and families, helping meet essential needs like food, housing, and utilities. While food insecurity remains a reality for some in Franklin County, efforts like this ensure that support is both local and personal, neighbors helping neighbors.

For those who missed the food drive, there is still an opportunity to contribute. Donations can be made online through the ministry, extending the spirit of this effort beyond a single day.
