CVA Welcomes Winter Term Big Dogs

Winter’s here, and so are our Winter Term Big Dogs! On Sunday, November 2, Carrabassett Valley Academy welcomed 38 new and returning student-athletes to campus for Winter Registration Day. Big smiles, fun icebreakers, and endless energy set the tone for what’s sure to be an unforgettable season at CVA.
The day was filled with excitement as students moved into dorm rooms, stored equipment, and got acquainted with fellow students, teachers, coaches, and staff—all while preparing for their first day of classes and training. As always, the day’s events reflected the Academy’s four core values: kindness, respect, commitment, and gratitude.

A highlight of the morning was the traditional Gratitude Ceremony, where Big Dogs took a moment to reflect on what they are thankful for and write down words of gratitude to mark the start of their Winter Term journey. This simple yet meaningful tradition serves as a reminder to approach every day at CVA with appreciation for the opportunities, friendships, and experiences ahead.

Following the ceremony, everyone gathered for a special luncheon in the Capricorn with family, friends, teachers, and coaches. The afternoon continued with a full slate of orientation activities designed to help students start the term with confidence and connection. They learned how to access travel work, complete short-term sign-outs, and navigate their Chromebooks. Athletes also completed concussion baseline testing and were introduced to Champions Advantage, CVA’s holistic approach to personal and athletic development. Peer Mentors led fun and engaging icebreakers, helping new and returning Big Dogs build friendships and feel right at home in the CVA community.

With Winter Registration Day setting the stage, CVA looks forward to another incredible season of growth, learning, and achievement—both on and off the snow.
