CVA Big Dogs Headed to the Olympic Stage

CVA is proud to celebrate an extraordinary moment for our community, as three Big Dogs, representing two nations, have earned nominations to the Olympic Winter Games!
CVA alum Sam Morse ’13 and Big Dog Nate Pare will make their Olympic debut on Team USA, and CVA alum Liam Moffatt ’15 will return to the Olympic stage with Team Canada for his second Games. Together, they will join others from around the globe to compete at the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Winter Games, taking place February 6–22, 2026, in Italy.

Sam Morse ’13 — Team USA, Alpine Skiing

CVA alum Sam Morse ’13, known affectionately as “Moose,” is scheduled to compete in both the Downhill and Super-G events at the Olympics, with potential selection for the Team Combined event determined by downhill results.

Morse grew up skiing at Sugarloaf, trained at Carrabassett Valley Academy, and graduated in 2013. Specializing in the speed events, Morse’s career highlights include being crowned 2017 Junior World Downhill Champion, multiple top-10 and top-20 finishes on the FIS World Cup circuit, and success at the U.S. National Championships. Morse officially secured his Olympic nomination with a 15th-place finish in the Super-G at Wengen, one of the most demanding stops on the World Cup circuit.

Nate Pare — Team USA, Snowboard Cross

CVA Big Dog Nate Pare advanced to the US Snowboard Cross A Team while attending CVA as a post‑graduate student. Competing internationally, Pare has shown remarkable progression on Nor‑Am, European Cup, and World Cup circuits with multiple top‑10 finishes as he established himself on the global stage. In 2024, he was honored as FIS Snowboard Cross Rookie of the Year, an award recognizing both competitive performance and character, following a breakout season that included his first World Cup podium. In April 2025, Pare achieved a historic milestone by earning his first career FIS Snowboard Cross World Cup podium with a third‑place finish at the World Cup event in Mont‑Sainte‑Anne, Québec, a key Olympic qualifier and breakthrough result that confirmed his status among the world’s elite. More recently, at the January 2026 World Cup stop in Dongbeiya, China, Pare delivered another standout performance, finishing in the Big Final and securing a top‑finish against a world‑class field as one of only four men to reach that round.

Known for his grit, timing, and tactical racing instincts, Pare’s career highlights also include his first European Cup silver medal at Dolní Morava and consistent World Cup heat qualifications that positioned him for Olympic selection.

Liam Moffatt ’15 — Team Canada, Snowboard Cross

CVA alum Liam Moffatt ’15 has earned a return trip to the Olympic Games after previously representing Canada at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. Moffatt has built an impressive international career since debuting on the Snowboard Cross World Cup circuit in 2016. His achievements include multiple World Cup top-10 finishes, a strong showing at the FIS World Championships, and capturing the overall Nor-Am Cup title in men’s snowboard cross during the 2018–19 season. At the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, Moffatt competed in both the men’s individual snowboard cross and the inaugural mixed team snowboard cross event, continuing Canada’s strong tradition in the discipline. His selection for Milano Cortina underscores his consistency, experience, and resilience at the highest level of competition.

A Proud Moment for the CVA Community

Together, Morse, Moffatt, and Pare represent the very best of CVA—athletes shaped by hard work, community support, and a shared commitment to excellence. Competing for Team USA and Team Canada, they embody the global reach of Carrabassett Valley Academy and the enduring strength of the Big Dog legacy. As the world turns its attention to Milano Cortina 2026, the entire CVA community will be cheering loudly for these three athletes as they represent their countries—and CVA—on the Olympic stage.
