Student Spotlight Awards
Each month, CVA recognizes students who live out our core values of kindness, respect, commitment, and gratitude in meaningful ways. The April Student Spotlight Award recipients represent these ideals through their efforts in the classroom, in the dorms, and on the hill, contributing positively to the strength and character of our community.
High School Athlete of the Month: Alex Bateman
Alex achieved one of the biggest accomplishments possible in amateur freeskiing this season, winning Level 1 SuperUnknown 23, one of the sport’s most prestigious video-based competitions and a true launchpad into the professional freeskiing world. After earning a finalist spot through his standout video submission against top amateur skiers from around the globe, Alex went on to claim the overall title during the finals session.
Widely recognized for helping launch the careers of freeskiing’s biggest names, SuperUnknown represents the highest level of exposure and opportunity available to rising athletes in the sport of freeski. Alex’s achievement reflects not only his creativity and skiing ability, but also the commitment, perseverance, and passion he has brought to his sport during his time at CVA. His success places him firmly among freeski’s rising stars and marks an exciting step toward what promises to be a bright future.
Middle School Athlete of the Month: Molly Holman
Molly delivered an extraordinary championship season, establishing herself as one of the top young alpine athletes in the region. At the Eastern Championships at Sunday River, Molly earned a top-10 finish in Slalom and captured silver in SkillsQuest, U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s benchmark for evaluating the technical fundamentals essential for long-term success in alpine racing.
She carried that momentum into the Can-Am Championships at Sugarloaf, where she won the overall SkillsQuest title against top U14 athletes from across the Eastern United States and Canada. Posting the highest overall score as a first-year U14 athlete is a remarkable accomplishment and a strong reflection of her technical foundation, focus, and commitment to improvement. Molly’s success this season reflects not only her talent but also the determination and work ethic that continue to drive her development both on and off the hill.
High School Student of the Month: Tommy Fremont-Smith
Tommy has demonstrated consistent effort, determination, and a strong commitment to his academics. He approaches his classes with focus and maturity, regularly putting in extra work outside the classroom and always looking for ways to improve.
His strong work ethic and personal drive are evident across all subjects. Motivated by a genuine desire to succeed, he consistently takes ownership of his learning and approaches challenges with a positive attitude and persistence. His dedication reflects the core value of commitment and sets a strong example within the CVA community.
Community Member of the Month: Molly Griffin
Molly has made a meaningful impact on the CVA community through her kindness, positivity, and support of those around her. She is consistently thoughtful and encouraging with her roommate and peers, helping create a welcoming and uplifting environment in the dorm community.
At USASA Nationals, Molly’s positivity and team spirit stood out as she supported her friends throughout the event. She also performed the national anthem in sign language, a gesture that reflected both confidence and consideration for others. Through her daily actions and genuine care for her community, Molly exemplifies the values of kindness, respect, and gratitude that strengthen CVA.
Congratulations to these Big Dogs on the well-deserved recognition. Each of these students demonstrates that success is measured not only by achievement, but also by the way we support others, approach challenges, and contribute to the community around us. Their dedication, character, and leadership continue to make a positive impact across campus and embody the values that define the CVA experience.
