Meet the Development Team
Kate O’Halloran grew up in Waterville and was the youngest of five children, and fondly remembers learning to ski at the Colby Ski Slope and Titcomb. The family’s annual trip to Sugarloaf was a big deal, and Kate is quite sure her skiing ability peaked at about age 10. After graduating from Waterville High School in 1985, Kate attended Brown University where she was a varsity ice hockey player and had a dual major in economics and organizational behavior. Kate earned her MBA at Babson College in 1998, where she stayed on to serve as the Director of Strategic Initiatives and the Associate Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship. In 2003, after 15 years of living, working and playing in Boston, Kate moved home to Waterville to be closer to her family. She began her development career in gift planning at Colby College, and served as the Director of Major Gifts and Gift Planning for MaineGeneral Health for three years prior to coming to CVA in 2012. Kate is responsible for all aspects of CVA’s philanthropic efforts, including the annual fund, the New Campus Campaign, the Scholarship Fundraiser and special projects. Kate works closely with CVA’s leadership team to create and execute a fundraising plan to support the organization’s short and long term needs. Kate also leads CVA’s alumni engagement efforts, and enjoys meeting with alumni throughout the year. Kate still loves to ski but she retired form racing after a one-year stint in the Sugarloaf Locals Race League, where she was simply grateful to get out unscathed.

Sarah Hinman joined CVA as the Assistant Director of Development and Alumni Connections in September 2014. Sarah works with Kate to plan and execute the vision and strategy for the CVA Annual Fund, including goals, objectives, budgets, and promotion. Sarah also coordinates alumni outreach efforts such as the Class Representative Program and assists in planning and hosting alumni gatherings around the country. Sarah works closely with CVA students to engage them in our fundraising efforts and plays a significant role in our scholarship outreach efforts. Sarah says that her favorite facets of her role are getting to meet and talk with so many alumni who have such a diverse range of career paths and interacting with the students at this formative time in their life journey.
Sarah grew up in Cumberland, Maine and attended the University of Maine where she received her B.A. in Psychology and her M.S. in Human Development. Sugarloaf has been her second home since birth and Sarah is thrilled to be back in the Valley full time. In the winter weekends when she is not working for CVA, you will find Sarah on the mountain coaching; in the summer enjoys fly fishing, hiking, visiting friends in Portland and enjoying all that Maine has to offer.
