Backcountry Program Intern

CVA Backcountry is an immersive backcountry skiing and snowboarding program for high schoolers. With focus on backcountry skiing, big mountain skiing, and ski mountaineering, the program offers world-class trips and training that translates to quality backcountry education and skiing performance.  During the program, athletes have the ability to earn industry certificates and training including Wilderness First Aid and AIARE Level 1 avalanche training.  
The program is currently seeking an intern for the 2017-2018 winter season.  
  • The intern will work a minimum of 5 days per week starting on November 28th - early April.  Mostly mid-week work with some local weekend trips and trainings. 
  • The Backcountry Intern/Assistant Coach will work closely with the Program Director to provide high quality ski coaching, backcountry-specific instruction, and supervision of high school athletes while at Sugarloaf and traveling locally. 
  • This person will be expected to help develop lesson plans and training drills and implement them while skiing at Sugarloaf and surrounding areas.  
  • The intern will be expected to participate in some non-skiing trainings and activities including weight room training and dry-land exercises.  
Required Qualifications:
  • An expert skier or rider who can ski well in any condition and on most every type of terrain.  
  • Familiarity with backcountry skiing or riding techniques and equipment. Has their own equipment.
  • An interest in working with teenagers and the ability to be a positive role model and mentor. A commitment to the learning and coaching process as our backcountry athletes develop skill and technique. 
  • Documented experience at a high level in outdoor sports other than skiing.  Applicant could have experience in backpacking, mountain biking, rock climbing, whitewater boating, etc.

Snowboard Development Team Coach

  • Candidates must have experience in coaching and/or the sport of competitive Snowboarding.
  • Ideal candidates will be certified by USSA or USASA or have plans to complete their certification

  • Positions are full-time seasonal, 5 months and offer housing and food.

  • Candidates must have experience in coaching, or competing in the Freestyle/Freeski discipline. 
  • Ideal candidates will have USSA or USASA certification (or have plans to enroll).
