Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) is currently accepting applications for the 2022-23 school year for teaching faculty, administrative staff, and coaches.   • Director of Enrollment

    Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) has an open position in the Enrollment and Admissions Department and is seeking a Director of Enrollment.  The Director of Enrollment maintains three core job responsibilities: recruiting new students, managing the comprehensive admissions process, and strategically positioning the school in the market. This person will also be the main point of contact for inquiring families and newly enrolled students. The Director of Enrollment reports directly to the Head of School or designee and works collaboratively with the senior staff and administrators.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • The Director of Enrollment will represent the Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) to a range of constituent groups both within and beyond the campus and has primary responsibility for fostering relationships with prospective students and their families in support of CVA’s enrollment targets and student engagement goals.
    • The Director will work with marketing, communications, finance, and auxiliary program departments to design, implement and evaluate the school’s strategic enrollment management plan including brand integrity, marketing, communications, auxiliary engagement programs and activities, financial aid program, recruiting, sales, admissions, and retention of mission-appropriate students.
    • Effectively represent CVA as a warm and welcoming community through strong public speaking and interpersonal communication skills and ongoing demonstration of integrity and respect for students, parents, alumni, and colleagues.
    • Promote the mission and values of CVA by developing and refining strategies to attract, engage and retain students and families who share enthusiasm for CVA’s curricular and programming approach to education.
    • Provide expertise and services as a primary resource to the Head of School and Administrative Team in strategic decision-making related to matters of market identification, student program offerings, auxiliary programs, brand integrity, marketing, communication, student recruitment, student retention, and financial aid.
    • Oversee the admission process and coordinate efforts to interview and assess applicants including online interviews, on-campus visit days, and admissions database, paperwork and communicate admission process to applicant families.
    • Coordinate the execution of engagement activities and events, including on-campus, at the Competition Center, at Sugarloaf and other mountains as well as registration days.
    • Work collaboratively with the Director of Finance to address CVA’s access and affordability through sound management and distribution of the Academy’s financial aid and scholarship funds.
    • Work collaboratively with the Director of Marketing and Communications to communicate clearly the unique value proposition and distinguishing brand of CVA to prospective students and their families through appropriate mass and social media channels. In addition, use all channels to keep current constituents informed and maintain school spirit and pride.
    • Update and maintain a system of analytics related to all phases of enrollment management, providing reports to the Head of School, Program Directors and the Board of Trustees in a regular, timely and consistent manner.
    • Develop and provide ongoing management of departmental budgets.
    • Travel as needed to events and resorts for purposes of recruiting and sales.
    • Motivate, and work closely and collaboratively with all athletic Program Directors and coaches to identify prospects and move them through the admissions funnel. Coaches and the admissions team need to work very closely together at all times.
    Other Duties
    • The most successful members of the CVA staff are those individuals who truly seek a school community. Toward that end, the new Director of Enrollment may be asked to take on responsibilities beyond those outlined above.
    Qualification Requirements
    • Experience in education, the ski and snowboard industry, and marketing/public relations preferred.
    • Possesses high integrity and strong work ethic.
    • Must enjoy working with the public and be effective in verbal and written communications with diverse audiences.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with all the school’s constituents while maintaining absolute confidentiality and professionalism in appearance, attitude, and presentation.
    • Highly self-directed with an attention to detail and ability to organize effectively
    • Requires some work on weekends, as well as travel. Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • English Teacher

    Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) has an open position in the Humanities Department and is seeking an English Teacher for the 2022-23 school year.  This position would involve teaching high school level English and potentially additional hours tutoring in our Academic Success Program and/or teaching a humanities elective. The ideal candidate would have experience teaching grades 9-11 English at the college preparatory and honors levels. Classes range in size from 6-12 students. Teaching at CVA allows for the freedom to design and develop the current curriculum to best serve the needs of the student-athletes that learn on-the-go during training and competitions. 
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Teach up to 5 sections: 4 sections of English (2 preps) and 1 section of an elective course in the Humanities Department for the 2022-2023 school year;  approximately 15-20 in-class hours per week
    • Provide prompt grading and feedback for students
    • Provide asynchronous travel assignments and feedback for students when out of the classroom for athletic training and competitions
    • Student advisor
    • Attend weekly teacher meetings, school meetings, and faculty meetings
    • Timely communication with parents, students, and co-workers
    • Occasional office hours set by the teacher to meet with students needing extra help
    Other Duties
    • Perform requisite number of weekday and weekend dormitory duties required of all faculty and staff 
    • Tap into a student’s passion for skiing/snowboarding, love of the outdoors, and willingness to work hard to help each student achieve his/her/their personal best

  • Freestyle and Snowboard Coaches

    Join the Action Sports Coaching Team: Our Action Sports Program has immediate openings for Freestyle and Snowboard Coaches for the 2021-22 school year and winter season. Freestyle skiing expertise in moguls or freeski is a plus. Snowboarding expertise in alpine racing a plus. Full-time positions with no-cost on-campus housing and meals available.   • Maintenance/Custodian

    Job Summary
    Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) has an open position in the Maintenance Department.  This position is a year-round position, for 32-40 hours per week. The position involves the daily maintenance and cleaning of CVA building, grounds, and equipment.     Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Inspects the building, grounds, and equipment.
    • Handles necessary repairs and maintenance
    • Keeps buildings and property in clean and orderly condition.
    • Performs routine maintenance activities.
    • Performs routine and deep cleaning duties.
    • Keeps a maintenance log and reports any issues to the maintenance manager
    • Responds to repair and maintenance requests in a timely fashion.
    • Collaborates with the maintenance team and contractors as needed.
    • Reads and follows manuals, blueprints, and other written instructions.
    • Uses equipment, including power tools, hand tools, electric tools, and plumbing tools.
    • Gathers and empties trash.
    • Mixes cleaning solutions and chemicals in containers in preparation for cleaning, according to instructions.
    • Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
    • Drives vehicles required to perform or maintenance work, including industrial trucks or vans.
     
    Qualification Requirements
    • At least one year of building maintenance, construction, plumbing, or electrician experience is strongly preferred, but not required.
    • A certification in building maintenance is a plus.
    • Must have a driver’s license and a clean driving record.
    • Handles the physical demands of the job, including standing, bending, pulling, pushing, climbing, and lifting at least 50 pounds.
    • Communicates effectively. 
    • Collaborates with maintenance workers, maintenance managers, and contractors.

  • Mathematics Teacher

    Carrabassett Valley Academy has a teaching position available in the Math Department for the 2022-23 school year to work with committed student-athletes. This position would involve teaching both middle school and high school level math and potentially additional hours in our Academic Success Program. A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in the subject area or education.

At Home in the Carrabassett Valley

Carrabassett Valley is home to 4,000-foot Sugarloaf Mountain Resort, Maine's largest ski area. The resort offers 162 skiing and snowboarding trails, terrain parks, and an Olympian-designed Cross course.
