Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) is currently accepting applications for the 2022-23 school year for teaching faculty, administrative staff, and coaches.   • Alpine Weekend Program Coach

    Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) is looking to hire one, part-time Alpine Weekend Program coach for the 2022/2023 season. The ideal candidate’s qualities include motivation, enthusiasm, a love of skiing, positive and supportive communication, and the ability to connect with our athletes. Racing background is a plus. Coaches receive a ski pass and other CVA employee benefits. Applicants must be able to secure a U.S. Ski & Snowboard membership and pass Safesport training. This is a great opportunity for a coach who wishes to develop professionally and is looking for mentoring to become the best coach you can be!   • Assistant Athletic Trainer/High Performance Team Member

    Title: Assistant Athletic Trainer/High Performance Team Member
    Status: Full-time 9 months
    Classification: Salary with 12-month Benefits

    Job Summary:
    Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) has an open position on the Health & Wellness team and is seeking an Assistant Athletic Trainer/High Performance Team Member for the 2022-23 school year.  This position would involve assisting in maintaining the athletic training program for all middle school and high school student-athletes at Carrabassett Valley Academy.   The position is full-time for 9 months (late August-early June), plus an additional 2 week on-campus summer camp.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provides professional athletic training services including but not limited to, prevention, recognition, evaluation, assessment, education, immediate care, treatment, counseling, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of athletic injuries.
    • Athletic Training organization and administration duties include maintenance of the athletic training facility, inventory of equipment, preparing bids within a budget, detailed and accurate documentation, AED maintenance and communication with parents, patients, staff and physicians.
    •  Serves as a member of the high-performance team requiring good understanding of strength and conditioning, prevention of injuries and an ability to work collaboratively as a team.  Candidate will help set goals for the program and effectively prepare and coordinate dryland schedules based on the team’s goals requiring an ability to be flexible, organized, and multi-task.
    • Ability to make connections with young athletes and work collaboratively with the wellness team, parents and staff.  Must be enthusiastic about helping young athletes grow and be successful.
     
    Additional Duties:
    • Attends seminars, conferences, and other professional development opportunities.
    • Covers shifts as part of a weekday and weekend duty team as per contract defined.
    • Share on-call availability with the Head Athletic Trainer.
    • Potential to serve as the “return to snow” coach if the candidate has skills/passion in this area.
    • Performs other duties as requested.
     
    Qualification Requirements:
    • Bachelor’s degree required 
    • State of Maine Athletic Training license required or eligible to complete
    • NATABOC certified
    • First Aid and CPR certified required. First Aid and CPR Instructor preferred.
    • CSCS  or comparable preferred

    Carrabassett Valley is home to 4,000-foot Sugarloaf Mountain Resort, Maine's largest ski area. The resort offers 162 skiing and snowboarding trails, terrain parks, and an Olympian-designed Cross course. In the winter months, Carrabassett Valley also offers over 80 miles of groomed trails connecting four backcountry eco-lodges for Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, and fat biking, open to the public at no charge.   • Freestyle Moguls Coach

    Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) is looking to hire one, full-time Freestyle Moguls Coach moving into the 2022/2023 season. The ideal candidate has a solid background in Freestyle skiing. Coaching experience is a plus. Candidates must be high-energy and passionate about their sport. Compensation is competitive with housing possible. Coaches receive ski passes and other discounted rates for dependents in academy, weekend program, and camps.     Responsibilities include: 
    • Coaching Freestyle Moguls A-level athletes 
    • Managing travel and training camps/ planning for the season
    • Training with athletes 6 days a week, when at Sugarloaf
    • Providing video analysis of athletes
    • Goal setting for each athlete
    • Budgeting and reconciling financial costs for the Moguls team
    • Occasional travel for one week, or more, at a time

    Other Duties
    • Perform requisite number of weekday and weekend dormitory duties required of all faculty and staff

  • Maintenance/Custodian

    Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) has an open position in the Maintenance Department.  This position is a year-round position, for 32-40 hours per week. The position involves the daily maintenance and cleaning of CVA building, grounds, and equipment.     Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Inspects the building, grounds, and equipment.
    • Handles necessary repairs and maintenance
    • Keeps buildings and property in clean and orderly condition.
    • Performs routine maintenance activities.
    • Performs routine and deep cleaning duties.
    • Keeps a maintenance log and reports any issues to the maintenance manager
    • Responds to repair and maintenance requests in a timely fashion.
    • Collaborates with the maintenance team and contractors as needed.
    • Reads and follows manuals, blueprints, and other written instructions.
    • Uses equipment, including power tools, hand tools, electric tools, and plumbing tools.
    • Gathers and empties trash.
    • Mixes cleaning solutions and chemicals in containers in preparation for cleaning, according to instructions.
    • Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
    • Drives vehicles required to perform or maintenance work, including industrial trucks or vans.
     
    Qualification Requirements
    • At least one year of building maintenance, construction, plumbing, or electrician experience is strongly preferred, but not required.
    • A certification in building maintenance is a plus.
    • Must have a driver’s license and a clean driving record.
    • Handles the physical demands of the job, including standing, bending, pulling, pushing, climbing, and lifting at least 50 pounds.
    • Communicates effectively. 
    • Collaborates with maintenance workers, maintenance managers, and contractors.

Candidates must be energetic and enjoy working with kids. Applicants must be able to secure a U.S. Ski & Snowboard membership and pass Safesport training.
