Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) is an independent, college-preparatory boarding/day school for 7th grade to post-graduate students, located at the base of Sugarloaf Mountain. The mission of CVA is to foster focused, individual student-athlete development by providing the optimum balance between college preparatory academics, responsible community living, and world-class athletic training in competitive skiing and snowboarding. Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) is currently accepting applications for the 2022-23 school year for teaching faculty, administrative staff, and coaches.   • Alpine Weekend Program Coach

    Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) is looking to hire one, part-time Alpine Weekend Program coach for the 2022/2023 season. The ideal candidate’s qualities include motivation, enthusiasm, a love of skiing, positive and supportive communication, and the ability to connect with our athletes. Racing background is a plus. Coaches receive a ski pass and other CVA employee benefits. Applicants must be able to secure a U.S. Ski & Snowboard membership and pass Safesport training. This is a great opportunity for a coach who wishes to develop professionally and is looking for mentoring to become the best coach you can be!     Responsibilities include: 
    • Coaching Alpine Weekend Program athletes (ages 8-18)
    • Training with athletes 2 days/week, on weekends, at Sugarloaf

    • Providing evaluations at the end-of-the season for all athletes

  • FIS/U16 Alpine Coach

    Carrabassett Valley Academy has an opening within the FIS/U16 full-time alpine coaching staff for 2022-2023. The ideal candidate’s qualities include motivation, enthusiasm, a love of skiing, positive and supportive communication, and the ability to connect with our athletes. Compensation is competitive with housing possible. Coaches receive a ski pass and other CVA employee benefits.     Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) is looking to hire one, full-time Freestyle Moguls Coach moving into the 2022/2023 season. The ideal candidate has a solid background in Freestyle skiing. Coaching experience is a plus. Candidates must be high-energy and passionate about their sport. Compensation is competitive with housing possible. Coaches receive ski passes and other discounted rates for dependents in academy, weekend program, and camps.   • Maintenance/Custodian

    Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) has an open position in the Maintenance Department.  This position is a year-round position, for 32-40 hours per week. The position involves the daily maintenance and cleaning of CVA building, grounds, and equipment.     Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Inspects the building, grounds, and equipment.
    • Handles necessary repairs and maintenance
    • Keeps buildings and property in clean and orderly condition.
    • Performs routine maintenance activities.
    • Performs routine and deep cleaning duties.
    • Keeps a maintenance log and reports any issues to the maintenance manager
    • Responds to repair and maintenance requests in a timely fashion.
    • Collaborates with the maintenance team and contractors as needed.
    • Reads and follows manuals, blueprints, and other written instructions.
    • Uses equipment, including power tools, hand tools, electric tools, and plumbing tools.
    • Gathers and empties trash.
    • Mixes cleaning solutions and chemicals in containers in preparation for cleaning, according to instructions.
    • Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
    • Drives vehicles required to perform or maintenance work, including industrial trucks or vans.
     
    Qualification Requirements
    • At least one year of building maintenance, construction, plumbing, or electrician experience is strongly preferred, but not required.
    • A certification in building maintenance is a plus.
    • Must have a driver’s license and a clean driving record.
    • Handles the physical demands of the job, including standing, bending, pulling, pushing, climbing, and lifting at least 50 pounds.
    • Communicates effectively. 
    • Collaborates with maintenance workers, maintenance managers, and contractors.

  • Mathematics Teacher (Winter Term Only)

    Carrabassett Valley Academy (CVA) has an open position in the Math Department and is seeking a Mathematics Teacher for the 2022-23 school year for 7th Grade Math in the Winter Term Only.  This position would involve teaching one section of 7th Grade math and potentially additional hours tutoring in our Academic Success Program. The ideal candidate would have experience teaching mathematics. Classes range in size from 6-12 students. Teaching at CVA allows for the freedom to design and develop the current curriculum to best serve the needs of the student-athletes that learn on-the-go during training and competitions.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Teach 1 section of Middle School Math for the Winter Term of the 2022-2023 school year;  approximately 5 hours in-class hours per week
    • Provide prompt grading and feedback for students
    • Provide asynchronous travel assignments and feedback for students when out of the classroom for athletic training and competitions
    • Attend weekly teacher meetings, school meetings, and faculty meetings
    • Timely communication with parents, students, and co-workers
    • Occasional office hours set by the teacher to meet with students needing extra help

    Qualification Requirements
    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in math or education preferred.

The ideal candidate has a solid racing background in ski cross or alpine. Coaching experience is a plus. Candidates must be high-energy and passionate about their sport. At Home in the Carrabassett Valley

Carrabassett Valley is home to 4,000-foot Sugarloaf Mountain Resort, Maine's largest ski area. The resort offers 162 skiing and snowboarding trails, terrain parks, and an Olympian-designed Cross course. In the winter months, Carrabassett Valley also offers over 80 miles of groomed trails connecting four backcountry eco-lodges for Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, and fat biking, open to the public at no charge.
