Nate McKenzie, Freestyle Program Director 

NateNate McKenzie founded the Freeski program at CVA in 1999. Since then he has coached 6 athletes to the X Games and remains head coach to the longest running and best freeski program in the country. He and Jesse Duncan coach the Freeride athletes.  A graduate of the UMF ski industries program, Nate sits on the board for eastern freestyle and is the freeride spokesperson for that organization. His qualifications include Level I US Gymnastics, Level III USSA moguls, and level IV USSA Aerials. 


Jesse Duncan, Head Freeride Coach 

JesseJesse has been a Park and Pipe coach at CVA since 2005. He is a certified level 200 USSA Freestyle coach. In the off-season, Jesse works as a hunting guide, and enjoys outdoor activities. He lives in New Sharon, Maine with his wife and son. 


Ted Porter, Head Freeski Coach

Ted is a 2010 CVA graduate and holds a BA of Business Administration from Sierra Nevada College in North Lake Tahoe. While at CVA and the years following, Ted competed in many high-level slopestyle and half pipe competitions including the Dew Tour, Grandprix, NorAms, and Northface Open events.

Ted prepares the CVA Freeski athletes to handle a variety of terrain filled with rails, hips, table tops, and jumps as they combine technical tricks into one run. Along with his athletic successes and experience, Ted has also coached the Carrabassett Valley Academy Summer Camp athletes for several years, as a trampoline and skateboard coach.
