CVA Freestyle Weekend Program

The CVA Weekend Program is designed for skiers from ages 7 (if ability allows) -19 who are interested in competing in the Terrain Park, Moguls, Freeride Events or any combination of the 3 disciplines. The program runs weekends and vacation weeks from December to April.

The primary goals of the CVA Freestyle Weekend Program are to:

  • Keep skiing and training fun and exciting to encourage lifelong participation in skiing

  • Teach solid skiing skills on a wide variety of terrain to all athletes

  • Maintain the established intensity and scope of training for those who desire to reach the higher levels of competition

  • Develop a sense of camaraderie and support among the athletes

Within the competitive sport of freestyle skiing, there are a wide variety of competitive opportunities available to our weekend freestyle program skiers including the following events: park/slopestyle, rail jams, moguls, big air, and new to the weekend freestyle program, freeride competitions where athletes test their skiing skills against others on natural terrain and natural jumps.

Freestyle athletes ages 7 – 10 will be exposed to all aspects of freestyle skiing and will be encouraged to compete in a few events in the areas of freestyle skiing they feel most comfortable with, typically moguls and/or park events at United States Ski and Snowboard Association sanctioned events. Older, more competitively focused weekend program freestyle athletes will continue to experience all the freestyle venues that Sugarloaf offers, though they typically begin to choose competitive event(s) of focus and will spend more time preparing for specific competitions.

The United States Ski and Snowboard Association hosts mogul, slopestyle and big air events. CVA WP Freestylers compete in Maine and New Hampshire throughout the winter, working toward qualifying for State and Eastern Championships held in March. Athletes are encouraged to compete in moguls, slopestyle and big air, but may choose to compete in 1 – 3 of the disciplines.

Older CVA WP Freestylers may choose to compete in The United States of America Snowboard and Freeski Association (USASA) rail jam and slopestyle events in Maine are working toward qualifying for the USASA National Championships held in late March in Colorado.

Weekend Program Freeride competitors will use the terrain around them at ski areas in the Northeast to showcase their creativity and skills for judges and fans. They compete in International Freeride Skiing Association (IFSA) and other freeride events held in the Eastern United States.
