CVA Freestyle Weekend Program

The CVA Weekend Program is designed for skiers from ages 7 (if ability allows) -19 who are interested in competing in Park and Pipe, Moguls, or both.  The program runs weekends and vacation weeks from December 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019.
There are 4 Freestyle program options:
1) Moguls
2) Freeski
3) Moguls/Freeski
4) NEW! Freeride*
*The sport of Freeride skiing is growing in popularity among young Freestyle athletes. It's appeal crosses multiple disciplines with a deep focus in ski fundamentals that any young skier will benefit from.
The CVA Weekend Program Freeride group will be managed by the CVA Weekend Program Freestyle Manager, Joan Dolan, and the CVA Freestyle Program Director, Nate McKenzie. The group will function within the same parameters as all other current CVA WP offerings.

Freeride: Training and Competition

This group will develop skiing skills that help prepare Freeride athletes for competition within IFSA and other Freeride divisions. Our focus on development will include ski fundamentals, route navigation, acrobatics, ski equipment prep, personal and group goal setting, and safety aspects to consider while participating in FreeRide skiing environments and competitions. The CVA FreeRide WP group will prepare athletes to be competitive representing their age groups at local and Eastern Region levels, giving each athlete the opportunity to excell in competitions.
Skiing with a balance of finesse, speed and trickery, athletes test themselves against terrain that the IFSA and Ski The East events offer. FreeRide skiers at Carrabassett Valley Academy possess the ability to ski long durations with steep descents and utilize the terrain around them to showcase their creativity and skills for judges and fans.

Mogul/Freeski: Training and Competition

If you choose the Mogul focused group, you will compete in USSA events; the Freeski focused group will be competing in both USSA and USASA, and the group that focuses equally on both will compete in USASA and USSA. All athletes will be expected to compete as all three groups have a competition focus.

The primary goals of the CVA Freestyle Weekend Program are to:

  • Keep skiing and training fun and exciting to encourage lifelong participation in skiing
  • Teach solid skiing skills to all athletes
  • Maintain the established intensity and scope of training for those who desire to reach the higher levels of competition
  • Develop a sense of camaraderie and support among the athletes
