Todd Johnson, Snowboard and Ski Cross Program Director

Many familiar with the CVA Snowboard program will recognize Todd’s name, having spent several years previously as a coach at the Academy. Since then, Todd has expanded his coaching experience as Head Coach with Team Utah Snowboarding, Head Coach of the Belgium Paralympic Snowboard Team, and more recently as the Head Snowboard Coach at Hebron Academy in Maine. Todd is also a U.S. Army veteran and USSA/USASA Level 300 coach. 

Todd’s coaching philosophy is based on long-term athlete development and personal growth.

Michael "Goldy" Goldschmidt, Head Elite Coach

Goldy is a graduate of Stratton Mountain School, where he attended from grades 7 - 12. His competitive career includes the Grand Prix, Junior Worlds, Dew Tour, World Cup, and X-Games. 

Goldy also competed as a member of the U.S. Snowboard halfpipe team for three years. Following his graduation, he moved to Lake Tahoe, pursuing his dreams and snowboarding career. As his years of actively competing came to a close, he enrolled at Sierra Nevada College. In addition to snowboarding Goldy enjoys rock climbing, golf, camping and hiking. Goldy's competitive experience and passion for the sport are great assets as the Head Elite Snowboard Coach. 


Dylan Deconzo, Snowboard Coach

Dylan grew up in Auburn, Maine and started snowboarding with a small club called SNOMAD that rode out of Lost Valley. Through SNOWMAD he started competing in local events as well as traveling throughout Maine to compete in USASA events including Nationals at Copper Mountain, Colorado where he placed top 10 in Boardercross and rail jam and was awarded "most creative line". Dylan also has a passion for filming and his snowboarding films have placed first and 2nd in multiple snowboard film competitions. Dylan joined the CVA Snowboard Weekend Program coaching staff during the 2018-19 season and joins the Academy staff as a Winter Term coach in the 2019/20 season. He will work with the Competition Team (formerly Development Team) in Freestyle, SBX and Racing. His high energy, positive attitude and willingness to grow in every aspect of the sport at a full-time club makes him a great fit at CVA. 

Dylan Deconzo, Carrabassett Valley Academy Snowboard Coach

Freddy McCarthy, Head Snowboardcross Coach

Throughout his competitive snowboard career at Carrabassett Valley Academy (class of 2012), Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, and Sierra Nevada College, Freddy established himself as a dominant SBX racer, earning Junior Worlds nods and a World Cup Start. Freddy is a well-rounded rider who won multiple USCSA titles in multiple snowboard disciplines while attending Sierra Nevada College in Tahoe. For the past three seasons Freddy has served as the Head Snowboard Coach at his alma mater. He comes to CVA ready and eager to give back to the sport he loves.
