Coaches

Barry Tripp - Snowboard Program Manager
Barry brings over 20 years of coaching and management experience at the college and high school level to CVA’s snowboard program. With a strong history in technical assessment, scouting and recruiting, Barry has extensive instructional and coaching knowledge.  Barry is also a snowboard competitor, riding in USASA Maine Mountain Series and National events.  Most recently, Barry managed the SCVA snowboard program. He is a USASA Level 100 Snowboard Coach, certified personal trainer and sports nutritionist. An avid surfer, Barry grew up in the Miami area and moved to Maine in the early 1990s. When not snowboarding at Sugarloaf, he can be found surfing, playing beach volleyball or shaping surfboards. Barry and his wife, Sherri, own a seasonal inn and surfing business in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. Barry and Sherri now live in Carrabassett Valley with their son, Jasper, who attends CVA.

Chris Maturi - Snowboard Coach
Chris has been part of and grown with the snowboard scene beginning at Sugarloaf in 1989. He has ridden side-by-side with just about every successful snowboarder that has ever been a part of CVA’s snowboard program and is still close to many of them today. He has had several industry sponsors throughout the years and is familiar with all aspects of competitive and progressive snowboarding. Featured in several local and national snowboard publications and videos, Chris was a team rider for the Sugarloaf Snowboard Team and was an integral part of the creation of Sugarloaf’s first terrain parks. He served as a head judge, judging regional to continental events and he is a level 100 certified USASA coach. Prior to returning to Sugarloaf and joining the team at CVA Chris was the founder and owner of his own snowboard shop, Imperial Board Lords.
Alex Tuttle - Intern Snowboard Coach
Alex grew up in the Carrabassett Valley area and began riding with the Bubblecuffer and SCVA snowboard programs before attending CVA for five years. His primary competitive focus is snowboardcross and owes much of his successes to the terrain that Sugarloaf has to offer. Some recent achievements include being elected a member of the USSA Project Gold Team, USASA Pacsun National Team, competing in Junior Worlds as well as Revolution Tour, USASA Nationals and Grand Prix events.
