For the past 28 years, the CVA Sugarloaf Golf Classic has been one of the most well attended and successful fundraisers at Carrabassett Valley Academy. It has raised nearly a million dollars for the Martha B. Webber Scholarship Fund and has been enjoyed by hundreds of friends of CVA and Sugarloaf. After careful consideration and discussion with the CVA development team, we have decided to make a change and discontinue the event. Last summer’s tournament and auction were wonderful, with long time friendships enjoyed under clear blue skies, a lively and prosperous auction, and Fluff Cowan even sinking the final 50 ft. putt to win the putting contest. It’s always good to end on a high note, so with a hint of melancholy but cautious optimism we feel that this is the right time to transition away from the golf tournament and into other fundraising activities.
To everyone who has been affiliated with the CVA Sugarloaf Golf Classic over the years, please know how deeply grateful we are for your camaraderie, loyalty and generosity. What a run we have had! Together we have helped make a life-changing CVA experience possible for over 100 Martha B. Webber Scholars, which would have made her so very happy and proud.
One thing that has not changed is our need to continue to be able to offer these scholarships to the many deserving Maine scholar athletes who dream of being a part of CVA. That is why we hope that as we develop our next generation of opportunities to raise scholarship funds that you will continue to support this incredibly special school.
