CVA’s competitive freeride program has been a leader in the freeride movement. We were the first academy with a specific freeride program. A few of our notable freeride alumni include X-games competitors: Corey Vanular ’06 (Corey also won the Gravity Games), Dan Marion ‘05, Boyd Easley ‘00, Matt Philippi ‘04, Silas Miller ‘05, Taylor Felton ’05 and a team of hard working young freeriders.
Train in our Antigravity Complex (AGC) on two Olympic quality fly bed bungee trampolines with harnesses. The AGC provides our freeriders with the sport-specific dryland training they need to safely develop their aerial maneuvers in a controlled environment before taking those skills to the snow.
Athletes in our program develop a work ethic that serves them well in their athletics and in all other areas of their lives after they leave CVA. Skiers in the Freeride program work hard year-round to achieve the high level of fitness essential to their success on the hill. In addition to participation on the regular CVA fall and spring sports teams, we have a standard program of dryland conditioning with a special emphasis on strength, power, agility, and anaerobic training.
New for 2007 is our own on campus rail park. New for the summer of 2008 will be our own dryland big air facility - a one of a kind jump allowing our athletes year round air training.
Summer on-snow training camps on the glacier at Blackcomb in B.C., Canada and fall camps in Saas Fee, Switzerland provide excellent off-season training opportunities for CVA Freeriders.
