Hi all,
We are only 3 days away from the end of the trip now. The kids are pretty exhausted. The skiing over the past few days has been good , but we are in need of new snow to refresh the traverses and all the rock hard bumps that have set up. Of course it's supposed to snow hard on Thursday night and Friday, just in time for us to make our trek to Calgary....

Hi all,
The high pressure has broken down and we are skiing powder again! The pictures tell the story. The only down side is that the temp this morning at the top of the mountain was about 20 below (yes, that's Farenheit!).

Hi all,
The weather gods have been kind to us. We’ve awoken each day to gorgeous sunny days with a kind temperature inversion. This means that although it’s only 5 degrees at the house, the top of the mountain has been probably 10-15 degrees warmer. Additionally this means that there is a beautiful cloud layer laying in the valley over the Columbia river. The skiing has been a nice mix of soft snow in the area, and boot top powder just beyond the boundary ropes. This has proven to be a great, fun ski area. There is an incredible amount of variety of terrain options. There’s everything from steep mountain top couloirs to wide open alpine bowls, and then amazing tree skiing lower down. Needless to say we are finding plenty to entertain ourselves.
Other than the skiing we have been settling in. The house has proven to be very comfortable for our crew. There’s a lot of good common space for everyone to stretch their legs. One of the best features is the heated 2 car garage that is serving as our enormous mud room. The kids simply arrive home from skiing, strip their outer layers in the garage and come into the main house all clean and dry. Also, the house is literally 100 feet of the ski trails so we’ve been coming home each day for hearty lunches prepared for us by Joslin.
We’ll spend the first few days here trying to get everyone into a good rhythm of skiing and studying, then hopefully we’ll start to get some snow so we can really explore all this mountain has to offer.

Hi all,
Another couple fantastic, beautiful days have passed here in Canada. The skiing continues to be great. We have now gotten all the kids out into the surrounding backcountry with the guide. The terrain that’s accessible from the top of this ski area is absolutely astounding. It’s almost as impressive as Europe, but with better, more consistent snow. We are settling into a good rhythm; breakfast at 7:00, study from 7:30-8:30, ski from 9:00 to 12:00, lunch 12:00 to 1:00, ski 1:00-4:00, study 4:30-6:30, dinner at 7:00 lights out at 9:30. There are some tired legs and lungs in these early days. We’ll have a good rest day on Saturday and by the time we ski on Sunday we should all be getting our high-altitude game on. The new kids are quickly realizing why we train so hard in the fall. Six hours a day of big mountain skiing and backcountry touring will really take it out of you if you’re not ready. Tomorrow we will start to tackle some of our avalanche training in hopes of snow to come so that we can put our newfound knowledge to the test.
This morning we awoke to a light snow. We are not expected to get much accumulation from this but at least this shows that the high pressure that has been dominating our weather over the past week has finally started to break down and maybe we will get a real snow in the coming days. Today is our first day off, the kids have been skiing hard this week and are ready for a day off the boards. They slept late and are going to get the chance to explore town, and maybe get ahead on their homework in hopes of a big dump to come.
All’s well here, hope things are good on the right coast.
