New for September 2008 - CVA ALPS Patrol Program
The ALPS Patrol Program will begin each fall with the academic portion of the Outdoor Emergency Care Technician, the backbone of the NSP First Aid educational program. For students who have already completed this course, they will continue to work on their evaluation and treatment skills while challenging themselves with more difficult and unique situations. This educational program will transition to on snow training to further challenge the students and prepare them for the many scenarios which they will face. In the end, they will complete the national test for the OEC Technician, train with the Sugarloaf Ski Patrol in handling rescue sleds, improve their skiing skills, and when all is said and done, they will be full-fledged members of the National Ski patrol.
Not all of their time will be spent here at Sugarloaf as the CVA Ski patrol program will shadow members of the Mt. Washington Volunteer Ski Patrol in Tuckerman’s Ravine. They will also train with the National Ski Patrol in Mountain Travel and Rescue, avalanche training, and ultimately train out west.
Students in this program will enjoy the benefit of CVA’s co-curricular programming while improving their skiing or snowboarding skills and learning valuable life-long skills.
