Sam Punderson
Sam, Big Mountain ALPS Program Manager, started the program in the fall of 2001. His roots in skiing run deep as he was an alpine and nordic skier from a young age. He attended Stratton Mountain School in Vermont during his high school years as a nordic racer, and raced successfully both nationally and internationally. After college he spent years guiding the rivers and mountains of Idaho. He was drawn back to New England after meeting his wife, Kate '89, who grew up in Carrabassett Valley. Prior to joining CVA he had been working at another private school for competitive whitewater kayakers. During the fall Sam is the head mountain biking coach and in the spring he is in charge of the whitewater kayak program.
Kevin Boucher:
Big Mountain ALPS coach Kevin is no stranger to Sugarloaf. Born and raised in Maine he grew up learning to snowboard and competing at Sugarloaf. His passion for snowboarding led him to CVA, which he attended for three years, graduating in 1995, and a post grad year followed the next season. Kevin is a former national level competitor in snowboarding that has taken him across the globe. He attended Western State College in Colorado where he majored in Recreation with an Outdoor Leadership emphasis and a minor in Environmental Studies. Kevin coached athletes in the competitive snowboard team for four years before moving over to the ALPS program. Outside of snowboarding he enjoys riding moto, snowmobiling, climbing, hiking and camping with his dog Brent and wife Erica, who also works at CVA.
