Sugarloaf
Sugarloaf has been an integral part of Carrabassett Valley Academy's history. Members of the Sugarloaf Ski Club blaised the first trails on the mountain and they founded CVA. The historical connection between Sugarloaf, the Ski Club and CVA provides a very unique bond to the mountain. This bond has brought forth mutually beneficial improvements to the mountain such as:
- big air hill
- new Seth Wescott inspired half pipe
- Zaugg half pipe cutter
- Antigravity Complex
- 10 Winter Olympians (four medals: gold medal to Seth Wescott in 2006 and two silver medals to Bode Miller in 2002; Miller also won the 2005 Overall World Cup Title and two individual World Cup Titles), 6 earned world champion titles, 23 have been named to national teams and 16 have earned NCAA or USCSA All-American status. Seven athletes have competed in the X Games with Wescott earning an unequalled five X Games medals. Jeremy Jones has six times been voted the Best Big Mountain Rider of the Year by Snowboard Magazine. Over the years, CVA alumni have claimed 72 national championship titles
- a new jump facility allowing off season aerial training opening in the spring of 2008
Maine's second highest peak at 4,237 feet with 2,820 vertical feet - the most continuous in New England - Sugarloaf offers the only lift-serviced above-treeline skiing in the East. Sugarloaf’s high altitude gets CVA Big Dogs on snow ahead of most and the vertical challenge prepares you for anywhere in the world. Just ask Bode Miller ’96, Kirsten Clark '95, Seth Wescott ’94, Jeremy Jones ’93 and a long list of others.
