Spencer L. Murfey Jr. Hall is Carrabassett Valley Academy’s newly constructed dormitory located on the new campus site. Students enter in and out of a 3-story timber frame structure housing the foyer and large co-ed student lounge. This community gathering space, with views of Sugarloaf to the South and Bigelow to the North, is now the center of their new mountain home. Off to the left sits another co-ed lounge – a place to play games, watch TV, hang out and relax or study in groups. The girls occupy the first floor that contains 12 dorm rooms and a girls-only lounge. The first floor also contains two dorm parent apartments, one two-bedroom and one single bedroom. The boys live on the second and third floors. Each floor contains 14 dorm rooms and boys only lounge as well as two dorm parent apartments.
The student’s dorm rooms are spacious offering a view of Crocker or Bigelow mountains, new furniture, and wireless networking. Each hallway consists of seven rooms and shares one large common bathroom. Dorm parents live at the end of each hallway allowing for quality supervision and interaction.
A lit pathway links Murfey Hall with the Anti-Gravity Complex and the Capricorn where the students eat their meals, attend class and have day room space for sports equipment and books. Just outside the new dorm sits a huge mound of fill shaped into an on-site rail park.
